What is Mingham Modern Chinese Language School?

Mingham Modern Chinese Language School (MMCLS), which was established in 1995 by a group of Chinese parents, is a non-profit supplementary school in Birmingham. The school aims to provide children, aged between 5 – 18 with a Chinese background and opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese, incorporating Chinese history, culture, music, literature and poetry etc.

From 2002, the school started to provide special courses for the teaching of GCSE Chinese, for which the students have achieved 100% A star or A grades ,and encouraged by this success and to meet the increasing expectations of our students’ parents, in 2009 the school began to teach Chinese for the AS Level.

In September 2007, MMCLS moved to King Edwards VI High School for Girls (KEHS). Currently there are more than 150 pupils registered in MMCLS in spread over 11 classes of different age groups. The school’s popularity has extended to the wider community including those of British and other Asian backgrounds, not just those from Mainland China. The curriculum has also been widened to cover English, Maths and Chinese arts in addition to the teaching of Chinese language, These courses run over a period of four hours every Saturday during term time.

The school is now governed by a school committee and managed by an appointed head teacher, administrator and 13 teachers all who possessed degree qualifications in relevant disciplines.

MMCLS is one of the largest schools in the UK that teachers Mandarin Chinese the official language of Mainland China. The school curriculum is designed to help children understand, speak, read and write Chinese as used in daily life, and to promote opportunities for building multi-cultural communities and engaging with China– the largest developing country in the world.

我校的张红梅老师一向本着对学生认真负责的态度，负责全校最高年级的教学工作，不计个人业余时间的付出，兢兢业业，使班级的学生在中文考试中成绩优异。她近来在中文促进会全英优秀教师的评比中荣获优秀教师的殊荣。在此我们要对张红梅老师表示祝贺和深深的感谢。期望更多老师共同努力，把明翰现代中文学校越办越好，让我们的孩子们在明翰受到最好的中文教育，文化的熏陶，使他们成为新一代龙的传人。

优秀学生奖

我校今年推荐的张红梅老师班的张哲熙 , 詹其莹 和金珍珍三位学生参加伯明翰市政府的优秀学生评比，均获得了优秀学生奖。这是我校参加伯明翰市政府教育署优秀学生评比的第三次获奖。我们为我们有这样的勤奋努力学生而自豪！

英国中文学校联会2011年文艺汇演

我校四位同学于2011年2月19日代表本校参加了英国中文学校联会（UK Federation of Chinese Schools）组织的2011年文艺汇演。这四位同学分别是丁燕老师班的曹家琪， 文大鹏，罗娟老师班的徐晨翔，郦舒宁。他们 参演的节目为中国名曲小提琴串串秀，曲目包括卖报歌，梁祝，绣金匾，四季以及龙的传人。 这四位同学的表演精湛，获得了广大观众的喜爱和大会评委的一致好评， 并获得了团体第二名的好成绩。    这是本校第一次出演大型的文艺汇演，让我们在此为四位同学的出色表演给予鼓励，并希望全校同学能代表学校积极参加各界主办的活动， 为学校争光！

明翰现代中文学校

明翰现代中文学校成立于1995年，原校址位于Joseph Chamberlain 学院，为一对来自大陆的热心夫妻所筹建。 经过多年的全校师生的努力，现在明翰中文学校变成一个真正有规模而且全英最大的中文学校之一。

我们的学校每周六开放，目前的学校的校长是刘树利 女士，并且有两位工作人员辅助她一起管理学校。学校的管理团队每年定期向执委成员汇报今年的运行情况。现在学校的执委会成员由五人组成，他们都是学生的家长，作为家长的代表他们主要负责学校的规章制度的制定，以及监控制度的执行情况和进展。

从2007年9月，明翰现代中文学校将校址迁移到King Edwards VI high school for girls. 我们上课的时间是每周六下午一点半到三点半，中间有十分钟的休息时间，一般是两点半。
